Curriculum Design

To achieve the objectives set by the Department of Foreign Language Instruction, the courses were developed based on the “Core Value” set by the department. The courses focus on “cultivating and training language teaching professionals.”  Students who graduate from the department will be able to develop language teaching materials, design courses and develop technology-based teaching materials and resources. The “Core Value” curriculum corresponds to the changes of relevant industries and is adjusted according to the needs of the society.  It is also set to enhance students’ theoretical and practical abilities in order to promote the efficacy and competence of the language teaching education.
 
To complete the degree in Department of Foreign Language Instruction, one must successfully complete at least 131 credit hours.  The courses are planned as follows:
 
(1) General Studies (52 credit hours are required.)
   1. General English Courses (24 credit hours)
   2. General Education and other general study courses (28 credit hours)
(2) College Required Course (3 credit hours)
A 3-credit-hour course is required from the College of Cultural and Educational Innovation.

1. Totally 131 credit hours are required for graduation: General Studies 52 credit hours + College Required Course 3 credit hours +Core Requirements 57 credit hours + Area of concentration 19 credit hours
2. First year students (Freshmen) of the Department of Foreign Language Instruction must elect Grammar and Rhetoricduring their first year of studies if their CSEPT score did not achieve the score of 200 upon entrance.
3. Students must obtain at least one Band 3 score certificate in any module of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test(TKT) or must at least have taken one course in Foreign Language Teaching Integration I orForeign Language Teaching Integration II upon graduation.
4. Students who minor or double major in a foreign language should choose other electives to fulfill the 4 credit hours (not limited to departmental elective.)
5. Foreign languages refer to non-English language courses offered by Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. When taking foreign language courses, the 4 credit-hour course has to be the same language.
6. Professional Training Practice is a 4 credit-hour course that requires 320 hours of field-training.
7. Students who enroll in the additional College Student Career Development Program must complete 80 hours of field-training.
8. The four-year day school students have to select one course from five areas of the general studies. Students need to be aware whether they have fulfilled the requirements from each area of general studies.
